A few Saturdays ago, after my fall, I woke up feeling so good I decided to go to Riverside, CA. On Main Street they have a great farmer’s market.
It isn’t very big but in addition to the Farmer’s Market there are many cafes and restaurants to enjoy and just walking Main St. is fun because of the people, the shops, and the art work in various places. There is usually plenty of parking in a lot on Mission between Lemon and Lime that is free on the weekends. Click this: Downtown Riverside Walking Map and when you get to the page click it again to see the map.
The first thing I saw when I started walking toward Main Street was a lot of young people dressed for a Quinceanera getting ready to take pictures by the Pagoda in front of the Library.
It must be exciting to have such a fun party for your 15th birthday. They were all smile and strutting around in their dressy clothes.
I love this area of Downtown because of the great architecture and beauty. The way to the market is down the sidewalk in front of the Famous Mission Inn.
If you have never been to the Mission Inn you must come. It is a treat for the eyes and you can walk completely around it and through much of the inside. There are many stair cases, walkways and patios. Be sure to check out the link above for all the information and more pictures of the beautiful and historic Inn.
At one time Riverside, CA was an Orange producing empire, but now most of the orange groves are gone. This statue is of the mother of orange industry here.
Eliza Tibbets is her name and it was her efforts in finding good Orange varieties that encouraged the industry here.
These Irish Wolf Hounds had everyone’s attention as they were walked around the market and down Main. There were actually three of them. They are much more beautiful and bigger in person than my phone camera has shown here.
Here are a few more lovely pictures of Main St.
I took a lot more picture but none of them do justice to this beautiful area. If you can, come see for yourself what a lovely place Riverside, CA is. Every where you walk for about a square mile there is beautiful architecture and history to enjoy. I’ll leave you with one last picture of my walk back to the car. It is the view just after the sidewalk in front of the Mission Inn.
The building in the back left of the picture is our main Library. The grounds are lovely and so is the area around. I hope if you visit you will enjoy your time in this beautiful city. Blessing, Sue
